Special Collections Conservation Services, Inc.

was founded in 1994 to allow Janet English Heller to practice her craft of paper conservation and to provide professional conservation services to institutions and historical organizations as well as private individuals.

Janet began her career as an undergraduate chemistry major at Oberlin College by volunteering at the Intermuseum Conservation Lab located at the Allen art museum. She received her MFA and Certificate in Conservation from SUNY's Cooperstown Graduate Program.

She has worked as a professional conservator of paper and parchment at the National Museum of American History and the Intermuseum Lab in Oberlin. Janet has been a professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) since 1992.

Her partner and husband, Michael Heller, began his career at the BFGoodrich Company. He was based at the former Avon Lake Technical Center for 15 years, his most recent position Thermal Analyst for the analytical and polymer characterization laboratories. Michael has devoted his full energies to SCCS since 1995, serving as operations manager.

SCCS is based in Oberlin, Ohio. It's laboratory has the capability to provide state of the art treatment for objects of any size. Although SCCS specializes in objects of paper and parchment, referrals can be made to qualified conservators in other disciplines.
